The importance of engaging with your audience…
and how to do it most effectively.
Whether it’s a movie, a book or your very own social media pages, engaging with your audience and keeping them engaged, is always hugely important.
Whilst posting great content is imperative, without provoking conversation around it, it’s little more than an image, blog or video. Social media engagement can feel fickle at times, but it truly contributes to turning likes and followers into sales, and at the end of the day, that’s what your business relies on in order to keep afloat.
A level of engagement that we’re rather used to seeing is when brands will ‘like’ a comment left by a follower; that’s great and always intrigues said followers, but we certainly think that more can be done. Engagement is most effective when it can be seen as having two sides; so spark up a conversation! Reply to their comments and ask them a question back, even if it’s rhetorical. Then, if you’ve got time, head over to their own account and ‘like’ any relevant content in return. By doing so, you’ll create a special relationship with the customer, thus engaging them.
When we’re reading a book or watching a movie, we always relate and form bonds with a likable character, and the same applies for social media. Followers like to feel apart of something and if they’re following your page, it’s because they want to be part of your ethos and narrative. So welcome them in! Set time aside each day to engage, and be authentic about it!
Engagement can also increase your following! Scroll your feeds looking for people who fit your brand but don’t yet follow. Try ‘liking’ a few of their images and commenting once or twice. The likelihood is, they’ll head to you page to check you out, and if they like what they see, your efforts in engagement have earned you a new follower. It’s as simple as that!
